Biograd na Moru<\/b>,<\/h2>\n

commonly shortened to Biograd<\/b>, is a town in northern\u00a0Dalmatia,\u00a0Croatia\u00a0and is significant for being the former capital of the medieval\u00a0Croatian Kingdom. Biograd is administratively part of Zadar County. It is located on the\u00a0Adriatic Sea\u00a0coast, overlooking the island of Pa\u0161man, on the road from\u00a0Zadar\u00a0and\u00a0Suko\u0161an\u00a0towards\u00a0Vodice\u00a0and\u00a0\u0160ibenik.<\/p>\n

Biograd na Moru is known as a tourist resort, with the first tourists arriving in the 1920s from\u00a0Czechoslovakia, and its first hotel was built in 1935.<\/p>\n

The town’s native Croat name fully translates as “the white town on the sea” in the local\u00a0Ikavian\u00a0dialect. The name\u00a0Biograd<\/i>\u00a0is a compound literally meaning “white city”\u00a0<\/p>\n

The name was first mentioned in the 10th century as a town founded by the\u00a0Croats. It was rendered in Latin as\u00a0Alba Maritima<\/b>, meaning “the white maritime (one)”.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Population<\/span><\/h2>\n

The town and the settlement itself have a population of 5,569 (2011 census). The majority are\u00a0Croats\u00a0(95%).<\/sup><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
